English
At Woodgrove Primary, we believe that every Woodgrovian has the potential to be developed into effective and confident communicator.
Through our English Programmes, we seek to develop discerning readers, empathetic communicators and creative inquirers through engaging and purposeful programmes that promote multi-literacies and appreciation for the language.
In line with the English Language Syllabus 2020, our English Language department focuses on the development, reinforcement and extension of language skills through an enjoyment of the language and the promotion of extensive reading; and leveraging oracy, reading and writing skills to develop knowledge and independent use of the language.
These are aimed at providing opportunities for Woodgrovians to use English creatively in a multitude of situations and contexts. We also strive to develop Woodgrovians into multi-modal literates in this 21st Century.
Overview of English Programmes
To promote student voice and the love for English language, the department organises exciting and engaging learning events such as English Language Fiesta (ELF) and WGPS Book Club. Through activities such as podcasting and ‘open mike’, Woodgrovians are encouraged to share their views and spread the joy of learning the English Language with their peers.
